The other day I read an article about 27 responses to the question “What is art?” I enjoyed reading the answers of poets, painters and philosophers. I thought I would ask my own resident philosopher what her opinion on the matter was.
When asked the question “What is Art?” This is what my eleven year old had to say on the matter.
“Art is the expression of your personality. It is like your soul. Everyone expresses their personality in different ways. It could be drawing, photography, dancing, acting or writing. Those are all expressions of who you are. Art is part of your soul, even if some people say they do not like art. Those people might play a sport or something, which is art in their life. I try to help people to realize that every talent they have, and the things that they do are a form of art. That’s what I think art is.”
I couldn’t agree more. We all have unique gifts and talents. Some are good with words. some with a paintbrush, some music, some with eloquent speeches on stage. These are all art forms, but they are not by any means the only ones. When we embrace the talents we have been given and use them to be the best of our ability, we are embracing the artist within us.
Don’t be afraid of your inner artist.
